01. ABOUT GAYATHREE TAILERS ..

We started our shop in 2002 on a small scale in the beautiful resort of Mirissa. which has one of the best beaches on the south coast of Sri Lanka.

Our fashions, especially fisherman's trousers and batik were a great hit with the tourists. Everything was going well for us at first. Business was more good in 2004 but then on 26 December 2004 the tsunami tidal wave hit the coast of Sri Lanka causing huge devastation and loss of life.

And today, more than 18 months later we are still trying to recover and to find new ways to make our dream come true. We had the goodwill and support of some of our happy and satisfied customers. Some had kept our email address and contacted us after the Tsunami and offered us assistance.

With this help we were able to overcome some of our difficulties and to think about new ways to sell our products through the power of the internet. And so, despite having lost everything, we were able to re-establish our business in time for the new tourist season.

However, there has been a huge decline of tourists visiting the southern coastal region and we have had to think of a new plan to make our dream a reality. Our shop was hit and all the contents washed away , only we and the building itself were spared. ...................................................

Since then we have been trying to rebuild our lives and the business with good support from our friends and with the help of foreign tourists. Therefore we have established our website in the hope that we can extend our service to the global market from our tiny coastal village of Mirissa.
